What if we stopped fighting uncertainty?
What if uncertainty isn’t a problem to solve — but a path to follow?
What if by softening and loosening our grip on what we need to know, we find a way to move toward the life that’s quietly calling us.
If you are standing at the edge of a new season, this reflection offers a gentle way to begin.
What if we stopped fighting uncertainty?
What if we stopped trying to outrun it… and decided to live with it instead?
This question came up for me in today’s reading, and it landed in a way that felt worth recording.
Because I spend so much energy trying to engineer certainty —
answers, sureness, guarantees.
When honestly…
if I aimed even a fraction of that energy toward simply moving,
I’d probably get the answers I’m looking for while I’m already in motion,
not while I’m standing still.
There’s this coach I’ve been following,
and I keep wondering if his method will work for me.
And as much as I can watch the videos,
scroll through his posts,
read everything he’s written…
the only way I will truly know
is if I follow the uncertainty and try it.
Do I want to know whether a new but spirit aligned method will work? Try it.
Do I want to know if people will receive me as a trusted advisor? Try it.
Do I want to know if my messaging lands? Try it.
What if, instead of trying to know the answer ahead of time…
I just moved forward with uncertainty?
What if I renamed uncertainty…curiosity?
What if I let myself go on an expedition,
a fact-finding mission, and assumed I would learn everything I needed to know along the way?
That the path would be littered with oohs,
and ahs, and oh really?
That I’d get to see and experience something that expands my sense of what’s possible.
Because here’s the one thing I am absolutely certain about:
When you make a decision
one that is different from how you usually operate–you change.
You change.
And everything you see changes.
It reminds me of this quote:
No man steps into the same river twice.
The man is different,
and so is the river.
When you think differently,
look through a different lens,
try something new —
you change.
The path changes.
What you notice shifts.
Possibility expands.
And this, all of this, excites me.
In my business, in my life,
the idea of newness,
discovery,
delight…
What wonders will I stumble upon?
What newness will blow my mind?
Who will I become?
There are so many beautiful nooks and crannies to explore.
This—this feels like living.
Like skipping and wandering and frolicking freely.
Like being present.
Being open to the sheer delight
of not knowing where I’m going.
Of not being responsible
for getting somewhere at a predetermined time.
Of not needing to know.
Of needing only one thing:
My presence.
My willingness to follow my curiosity.
To go where the road takes me.
To wander with wonder.
There’s a poem my college roommate told me about—or at least I think that’s where I got it.
It says:
“I wonder as I wander.”
And isn’t that it?
For the rest of this month,
I’m renaming uncertainty: curiosity.
I’m wandering with wonder —
eyes open
heart open
spirit open
to all the newness that exists.
I’m trying new things —
not from need
or pressure
or “should,”
but from curiosity.
Because that is who I am.
I am a curious wanderer.
And I like that.
A lot.
There is so much to explore,
so much magnificence to see
and touch
and take part in.
What a gloriously light way
to enter this —
and every — day.
What a beautiful way to be.
So this is how I’m going into my meditation today.
I’m turning on the music,
closing my eyes,
and being a curious wanderer.
And if you, like me,
have been standing at the doorway of something new,
something calling to you…
If you’ve been trying to engineer out all of the uncertainty…
if you’ve been waiting for confidence, or clarity, or proof…
I want to invite you
to not need to know.
Redefine uncertainty.
Call it curiosity.
Choose to wander with wonder.
Let possibility lead you.
I invite you, too,
to become a curious wanderer
and experience all that life has in store for you.
Rooting for you always.
